The Canadian Federation of Students is outraged at the multiple reports of gender-based and sexual violence alleged to have taken place at Western University during orientation week.

The Federation extends support and solidarity to students at Western University who staged a walkout today in support of survivors of sexual violence. Students on all campuses all across the country deserve safe and enriching academic experiences free of violence.

On September 16, 2021, Western University announced that students in residence will be required to undergo training on sexual violence and consent. We hope that the university’s endeavours can help get to the root of a problematic campus culture where students experience harm or violence. We extend our solidarity to all survivors on campus and to students fighting back against rape culture and misogyny everywhere.
