Condemning Remarks Defending Atrocities Committed at Residential Schools

The Circle of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and the Canadian Federation of Students condemn the damaging embellishment of recognized atrocities committed against Indigenous peoples at Residential Schools. Remarks by Manitoba’s Reconciliation and Northern Affairs Minister and Premier, Brian Pallister blatantly attempted to distort the history of Indigenous peoples and disregard the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions 94 Calls to Action.

Students call on the province of Manitoba and all elected officials to action demands made by the Summit of Treaty 5 Sovereign Nations while issuing a public statement recognizing the truths of Residential schools and their impacts on victims, survivors and communities.

The Circle of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and the Canadian Federation of students stand against all forms of colonialism, oppression and racism and will continue to fight against the ongoing genocide carried out against Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island.
